Trade ideas for Monday May 13
Being systematic pays. I was wrong on AMD and flipped to make bank !
Good morning traders!
Wow can you believe we are back to highs? BTFD has been the theme after any 2% market drop. At first the market looked like we may grind higher, but sure enough being system paid off.
Friday gave us some great gap up reversal plays.
As for today, the real question is how will market behave ahead of core PPI data on Tuesday and core CPI data on Wednesday.
I’m inclined to think we will be mostly range bound with some possible de-risking/profit taking.
Let’s review Friday’s trades and then go over the levels and ideas for today.

Friday’s Price Action (Education)
You don't try to make $100,000 ...You don’t start by saying, I’m going to make the biggest most profitable trade and turn $1000 into $100,000 and fix all my bad trades before.
You say, I’m going to plan and execute 1 trade as perfectly as I can today. You do that every single day, and soon you'll have a $100,000 and likely much more!
SPY / SPX
On Friday, I wanted a gap fill in first hour or 2 before going long. We got presented with price action to allow going short after the first 15 minutes.
Notice the double top and volume red bar breaking vwap. Upon back test of vwap and then red bar coming again, it was time to take 5200p anticipating a gap fill by 10:30-11:30. We got exactly that over the next hour.
You can se this was an easy entry around 1.1-12 and risking vs 0.9 or 0.8. Take profit on 0.40 of risk would be at 2.40 - 3.20. with both being hi and allowing runners to reach 4 on gap fill.
AMD
This wasn’t on the blog’s watchlist but it was on the extended watchlist for the THT group. I initial got long and it was working well. But then market started dumping across the board and given the gap up, and the price action, I had to flip short. And it was a good thing too. I expected a retest of 152.50 in case of the gap fill and possible more downside because of the news event and the price action acting like sell the news.
The flip process paid off. (Flip short with double the size when wrong)
Here the price action on the 152.50p
Notice how getting in around 0.25-0.30 after the vwap cross triggered acceleration. Following process, took 30%, then 50%, and finally 80% of the profits into the 10:30 spike/high / 9:30 on the chart above).
After this attempted longs, but the price action turned into all day basing instead of a gap fill reversal and continue higher. This was no surprise given recent action and the possibility of de-risking ahead of inflation number this week.
Trade Ideas - Plan for Monday May 13
Stick to process. The process and trade setups I teach works. Rinse and repeat over and over again. There will be losses. Any good system will have them. Being systematic also means the gains will repeat and come again too. If you keep changing your system/process trying in an effort to never lose a trade, you will never get to where you want to go.
Market is gapping up in premarket. I’ll again looking for some profit taking and consolidation today ahead of Core PPI tomorrow and Core CPI on Wednesday.
Remember we get inflation numbers this wee, so may want to go risk-off on positions ahead of weekend.
Ideas
Lets’ go over a few ideas. Remember I’m looking for 1-3 solid trades a day. Friday there were 2. Focus on planning and execution and the profits will come. This requires patience for the ideas to setup and the price action to validate.
Today could be mostly a waiting game and I might not open any trades.
