SMCI gives us the predicted $20-50 exit on $600c from $2 entry! SPY continues rally Trade ideas for Friday Aug 16, 2024

Good morning traders!
Solid day again yesterday, with a banger payout on SMCI. Unfortunately I sold too much too soon and waited for vwap did to reload that never came. I did roll up some into 620c from 600c. More on that in the trade review mark up.
Yesterday I wrote that if trend held, and SPY 550 cleared, we likely see 553+. That is exactly what happened by end of day.
I made 2 mistakes yesterday, I realized that 553 was coming but after I checked the math, I wasn’t interested in a 3x reward given the risk of a yank. The mistake was that I didn’t plan and take bull puts. This is a big part of why I am working on algos.
There is consistently multiple ways to profit, but remembering which way for which situation becomes a handful. I want a scanner/alert system that will present the method to profit and opportunity details. Don’t you too?
Trade Alert Highlights:
SMCI 620c: 5 → 22
SPX 5440c: 0.5 —> 3.5
SMCI 600c (swing): $2 —> $38
Overnight Action
SPY is dipping premarket after test 554. Overall the question is, is the rally exhausted or not. Will dips get bought again today. Be careful today as it looks like we may now be in for some chop/consolidation before more direction comes in.

Thursday Recap
Let’s review the trades and price action. Did you take advantage? If not read on an learn how.
SPY/SPX
Given the gap up, during first hour, my default is too look for a short for some gap fill. I will always do that trade because when you nail the reversal, it is a huge payout. In yesterday’s case, it didn’t develop but we still got 20-50% gains.
once 550 cleared, I considered going long on 5530c but they were 6-8 and I was thinking could sell for maybe 15. I didn’t like the risk reward so even though right directionally, I skipped the trade! What I should have done is take SPX 5530/5525 bull puts or maybe even 5540/5535 bull puts. I marked the spot for entering that credit sell in great in the chart above. The second green was where I alerted 5540c for 0.50.
SMCI
I definitely could have traded this better and held more size, but I stuck to process. The biggest mistake was not adding more size to 620c after the trend setup.
Please review the chart above. key note to observe was that I targeted 610 (a 2 level move) for locking in majority of profits. That is my process. I then had runners and use 620c as my reload/roll up in case next leg came.

Education - How to Join a Strong Trend
The process I typically follow for joining a strong trend are as follows:
All day grinder: join on dips to 20ma
Multi-day grinder:
Join either on support test of morning lows/failed breakdown reversal
Join at vwap mid day or end of day
Keep it simple. Don’t chase, wait for support levels for great risk/reward entries!
Education - Systematic Profit Taking
How do I take profits? I keep it relatively simple. Depending on the entry and range to the next levels I typically with take profits 50-100% of my profits at 3-10R and then raise stops to above entry with a goal of letting runners take me to the next level or 2 and to then reload if I believe we are consolidating before the next leg.
I then repeat the same process on the reload.
Let me know in the comments if you have questions or would like to see examples, I’ll share them.
Trade Ideas - Plan for Friday Aug 16
Stick to process. The process and trade setups I teach works. Rinse and repeat over and over again. There will be losses. Any good system will have them. Being systematic also means the gains will repeat and come again too. If you keep changing your system/process trying in an effort to never lose a trade, you will never get to where you want to go.
Ideas
Market is dipping this morning ahead of the open. I’ll be watching 549-551 area for a direction.
TODAY IS OPEX! Be extra careful. I may skip trading or reduce size to 20-50% of normal size. Also making it ok to not trade and to take profits quickly.
